      Re: `65/`66 Power Antenna Restoration

When I bought my 65 roadster 3 years ago there was no Antenna switch in the car, and the antenna was in the full down position. This spring when the repro switch appeared, I bought one, and was pleased to find the antenna worked just fine. That lasted about a month and the antenna ceased to work, stopping in the full up position. I removed it yesterday after checking to insure that there was in fact power going to the motor in both directions depending on the direction of the switch. Now for the hard part, how do I tell if in fact this is an original antenna? It is completely sealed in a yellowing rubber plastic stuff, appears to have been dipped. In addition to the threaded hole in the bottom of the motor assemby that bolts to the bracket, there is another threaded hole, same diameter, nothing in it.
Thanks in advance for any help,

      George

        Rings on 3 mast sections

George,The 3 outside mast sections have a indent ring in the top of each section. None of the repo's I've seen have this. Mike

Re: Rings on 3 mast sections

          Mike,
Thanks for the response. Mine has no rings on the mast sections, so I guess I have a repro antenna.

          Thanks again,

          George

Gary, there are some articles in old Restorers on this. I have them as jpg files if you can't find them. You can take the antenna apart very easily. It might be repairable. Ken

              Repo Also

I have a repo also. I've been looking for a orignal but I'm not going to pay $1000.00 for one. Its was only a 2 point deduct at Windsor out of 4500 points.

                Re: Repo Also

                Ken,
I agree it's way to expensive. I don't plan to have the car judged, but I am trying to keep what is original original. I also want to get the antenna working as it should.

                Thank you,

                George

                  Ken,
I would like the articles, if you would send them to me. I am about to order the Restorer on CD, but in the meantime I can use your help.

                  Thank you,

                  George
